THE KENNEDY DANCERS PRESENTSUMMER DANCE FEST SERIESAT THE J. OWEN GRUNDY PIERJERSEY CITY, NJEVERY THURSDAY EVENING JULY 9 –AUGUST 13, 2009AT 6:30PM – FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLICThe Kennedy Dancers and the City of Jersey City are proud to announce six consecutive evenings of dance performances to be held at the J. Owen GrundyPier at Exchange Place in downtown Jersey City. Performances will feature the Kennedy Dancers Repertory Company (professional company) and the Inner City Youth Junior Dance Company The performances will be held every Thursday evening from July 9 – August 13, 2009 from 6:30-8:00pm. The performances are free to the public. For the first three Thursdays, there will be a mini salsa class after each performance and a mini hip hop class after the last three scheduled performances. The classes are interactive and audience members will be encouraged to participate. Call 201-659-2190 for more information. In addition, the Kennedy Dances Inc. is thrilled to announce that acquisition of a dance piece by world renowned choreographer Sean Curran entitled “Forces of Circumstance.” Sean Curran is famous for his intricate partnering moves and stunning modern dances. “Forces of Circumstance” is a beautiful piece set to music of Radiohead. It will be performed by the Kennedy Dancers Prodessional Repertory Company. ![]() Also featured, will be some of our various repertory pieces, choreographed by Kennedy Dancers Artistic Director, Diane Dragone. The first of these pieces is “Howl.” “Howl” is a modern dance set to Allen Ginsberg’s famous poem and music by John Coltrane. Also featured will be “La Dolce Vita” – a snapshot of 50s and 60s Italian American songs such as Mambo Italiano, That’s Amore, and Bella Noche. “La Dolce Vita” will be performed by both the Kennedy Dancers professional company and the Inner City Youth Junior Dance Company. The final choreography is “Meadowlands Serenade.” This is a commissioned work by the NJ Hackensack Meadowlands Commission featuring the music of great Brazilian Artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim. This piece explains and explores the eco-system of the - at one time - much polluted New Jersey Meadowlands and simulates the migratory movement of birds from South America. The Kennedy Dancers Professional Repertory Company includes: Preston Burger, Natasha Carles-Novikov, Julianna Kenworthy, Takao Komaru, Miguel Villalobos, and Amanda Yachechak. The Kennedy Dancers Inner City Youth Junior Dance Company includes 15 dancers between the ages of 10-19 who are all on either full or partial scholarship. They participate in approximately 10-12 hours of dance classes and rehearsals per week. The Kennedy Dancers’ Mission is to bring high quality dance performances, training and professional performance opportunities to the NJ Metro Area. Since its inception, the company has grown to respond to the community’s special needs serving low income, at risk, incarcerated teens, and senior citizens through diverse dance classes offering fun fitness and performance opportunities. |
